This is one of the most urgent problems for civilized man. He has created civilization to give himself security. Security for what? For boredom? His chief problem seems to be that most human beings need a certain amount of challenge, of external stimulus, to stop them from sinking into the blank stare and blank consciousness of the idiot.

Most people are, in the most ordinary sense, very limited. They pass their time, day after day, in idle, passive pursuits, just looking at things — at games, television, whatever. Or they fill the hours talking, mostly about nothing of significance — of comings and goings, of who is doing what, of the weather, of things forgotten almost as soon as they are mentioned. They have no aspirations for themselves beyond getting through another day doing more or less what they did yesterday. They walk across the stage of life, laving everything about as it was when they entered, achieving nothing, aspiring to nothing, having never a profound or even original thought. This is what is common, usual, typical, indeed normal. Relatively few rise above such a plodding existence.

The use of the phrase “rule of law” can be traced to 16th-century Britain. It was employed in arguing against the divine right of kings. However, the principle, if not the phrase itself, was recognized by ancient thinkers. Aristotle wrote: “It is more proper that law should govern than any of the citizens.”

God. Glory. Gold.

Để tâm hồn được yên tĩnh, tốt nhất mọi người nên làm hai việc mà mình không thích mỗi ngày.

Hu’s father was denounced during the Cultural Revolution, an event that (together with his relatively humble origins) apparently had a deep effect upon Hu, who diligently tried to clear his father’s name.

A conceptual framework is an analytical tool with several variations and contexts. It can be applied in different categories of work where an overall picture is needed. It is used to make conceptual distinctions and organize ideas. Strong conceptual frameworks capture something real and do this in a way that is easy to remember and apply.

Isaiah Berlin used the metaphor of a fox and a hedgehog to make conceptual distinctions in how important philosophers and authors view the world. Berlin describes hedgehogs as those who use a single idea or organizing principle to view the world. Foxes, on the other hand, incorporate a type of pluralism and view the world through multiple, sometimes conflicting, lenses.

Economists use the conceptual framework of supply and demand to distinguish between the behavior and incentive systems of firms and consumers.

First, you need to be honest with yourself about what you are feeling and why you are feeling it. The key is to identify and label your emotions as you experience them. Associating words with what you are feeling makes the emotion tangible and less mysterious. This helps you relax, figure out what’s behind your emotion, and move forward. If you try to stifle your emotions and tackle your work without addressing them, they will slowly eat away at you and impair your focus.

Our minds are basically organized like human computers. They function to a great extent in much the same way. So, if we want to improve our daily productivity, we need to empty the cache of temporary “files” and reboot for our brains to allow us perform at our peak levels.

Quickly dump everything you’re keeping in your head.

And I mean everything. Not just tasks but thoughts, concerns, questions, and ideas too.

Get it all out. Don’t worry about sorting them, you can do that later. Just get them out of your head so that they can stop spinning around, using up precious brainpower and space.

Without great solitude, no serious work is possible.

Maslow classified esteem needs into two categories: (i) esteem for oneself (dignity, achievement, mastery, independence) and (ii) the desire for reputation or respect from others (e.g., status, prestige).

Maslow indicated that the need for respect or reputation is most important for children and adolescents and precedes real self-esteem or dignity.

A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.

A poem is an instant of lucidity in which the entire organism participates.

The intellectual power, honesty, lucidity, courage, and disinterested love of the truth of the most gifted thinkers of the 18th century remain to this day without parallel. Their age is one of the best and most hopeful episodes in the life of humankind.

Aiming at simplicity and lucidity is a moral duty of all intellectuals, lack of clarity is a sin, and pretentiousness is a crime.

If water derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind!

Frutiger described Avenir as his finest work: “The quality of the draftsmanship – rather than the intellectual idea behind it – is my masterpiece. It was the hardest typeface I have worked on in my life. Working on it, I always had human nature in mind. And what’s crucial is that I developed the typeface alone, in peace and quiet – no drafting assistants, no-one was there. My personality is stamped upon it. I’m proud that I was able to create Avenir.”

Although the Lorem Ipsum is useful to look at a font’s, basic characteristics without word meaning, in practice, the meaning of the words are effected by the font they are displayed in. Because of this fact, great care should be taken to match the font’s personality with the sentiment and purposes of your document (especially when using the more decorative options).

Sports teams sometimes paint the opposing team’s locker room pink to keep the players passive and less energetic.

I loved how Steve saw the world. The way he thought was profoundly beautiful.

He was without doubt the most inquisitive human I have ever met. His insatiable curiosity was not limited or distracted by his knowledge or expertise, nor was it casual or passive. It was ferocious, energetic and restless. His curiosity was practiced with intention and rigor.

Steve was preoccupied with the nature and quality of his own thinking. He expected so much of himself and worked hard to think with a rare vitality, elegance and discipline. His rigor and tenacity set a dizzyingly high bar. When he could not think satisfactorily he would complain in the same way I would complain about my knees.

As thoughts grew into ideas, however tentative, however fragile, he recognized that this was hallowed ground. He had such a deep understanding and reverence for the creative process. He understood creating should be afforded rare respect—not only when the ideas were good or the circumstances convenient.

Ideas are fragile. If they were resolved, they would not be ideas, they would be products. It takes determined effort not to be consumed by the problems of a new idea. Problems are easy to articulate and understand, and they take the oxygen. Steve focused on the actual ideas, however partial and unlikely.

Above all else, I miss his singular and beautiful clarity. Beyond his ideas and vision, I miss his insight that brought order to chaos.

It has nothing to do with his legendary ability to communicate but everything to do with his obsession with simplicity, truth and purity.

I don’t need a source of strength. Quitting is not in my nature. And I don’t care about optimism or pessimism. Fuck that we’re gonna get it done.

Science is what we understand well enough to explain to a computer. Art is everything else we do.

Choosing to be busy is a choice of investment of time.

Kissinger is an extremely complicated guy. He is ungracious, he yells at his staff, he is intolerable in terms of human feelings. Dictatorial. ‘Get people here.’ ‘Have those people here,’ ‘Where are they?’ ‘Why do I need these papers?’ ‘Where are my papers?’ And yet all those petty little unpleasant characteristics fade away when you hear him discussing the world situation. He comes alive in public. Walk up the steps and the salute rings out from the PLA guard. He literally is so alive within, you can see it on the outside very clearly. He is like a politician with a roar of a crowd on election eve or the athlete running out at the 50-yard line just before the kickoff. The public turns him on.

“He does a first-class job on that whole press operation,” Bush assesed. But “clearly he is not an administrator.”

In crucial things, unity. In important things, diversity. In all things, generosity.

Be bold in your caring, be bold in your dreaming and above all else, always do your best.

I can tell you this: If I’m ever in a position to call the shots, I’m not going to rush to send somebody else’s kids into a war.

I hope my own children never have to fight a war.

Analytical skill is the ability to deconstruct information into smaller categories in order to draw conclusions. Analytical skill consists of categories that include logical reasoning, critical thinking, communication, research, data analysis and creativity.

Thinking analytically is a skill like carpentry or driving a car. It can be taught, it can be learned, and it can improve with practice. But like like many other skills, it is not learned by siting in a classroom and being told how to do it. Analysts learn by doing.

It is the core idea behind the designers motives in creating these cars that make them so uninspiring and uninfluential, people would shame you for making anything that inspires from the past trends and would call you Old-fashioned, old timer, fossil & etc… but in the old days the core essence of creating a futuristic design was “Ambition and Perfection”, breaking through boundaries of what was thought to be possible, not breaking through boundaries of logic and order!

There was principle, there was passion, there was order in things, cars were designed with solid and rich ideas, created with passion and effort and time put into it.

In todays modern cars, the idea of a “Futuristic” design is simply to create the most weird and abnormal and freakish looking thing possible, Just breaking the rules traditions and principles that are what actually make these designs make sense and connect with one’s mind and soul.

Enterprise represents the more general term for a business. Unlike the word enterprise, which can be used freely to describe any company or business, the word corporation is reserved for businesses that have completed a legally binding process.

A corporation is sometimes referred to as a “legal person” due to the rights and obligations such a business enjoys. Corporations must pay taxes, can borrow money, hire individuals, enter into contracts and sue or be sued.

The owner of a company is its owners but on the other hand, the owners of a corporation are the shareholders. A company is always a company but a company may not be a corporation.

Corporate is a company that is related to larger businesses and entities. There is no single owner, the shareholders are the owners.

Trade and commerce are the 2 broader categories in which business activities are divided. Commerce is responsible for facilitating the interchange of goods and services in an economy. It is further classified into 2 parts, i.e., trade and auxiliaries related to it whereas trade means purchasing and selling goods and services in exchange for money.

The scope of commerce is much broader than that of trade. It deals with vital factors responsible for an exchange of goods apart from the transaction itself.

Trade is simply the transfer of ownership of goods and services. On the other hand, commerce includes all the activities necessary to facilitate trade, which means to deliver goods or services from manufacturers to consumers. Such activities include arranging transportation, providing banking and insurance services, promoting the products via advertising and storing the product in warehouses, etc. to complete this entire process successfully.
